Cara M. Anthaney is a Partner at the CTM Legal Group. The focus of Cara's practice is in labor/employment union-side litigation in federal and state courts, especially collection of contributions for medical, pension and other employee benefits and labor-management funds. As a collections attorney, Cara effectively enforced money judgments through citations to discover assets, wage garnishments, liens and other collection mechanisms to obtain funds from judgment debtors. Additionally, Cara has successfully tried several civil bench trials in Circuit Courts throughout the State of Illinois
Cara is also experienced in a variety of legal matters, mainly in the areas of consumer rights, foreclosure defense, real estate transactions (buyer and seller representation), traffic infractions, and expungements of criminal records.
Cara is a member of the Illinois Bar and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois Bar. In December 2010, she received her Juris Doctorate from Chicago-Kent College of Law. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in both Spanish and History from New York University in 2007.
During law school, Cara served as judicial clerk to Honorable Ann Collins-Dole in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Domestic Violence Court. In addition, Cara volunteers for First Defense Legal Aide. Cara also conducted continuing education presentations to union members on collections and enforcing judgments.
She is a member of the AFL-CIO Lawyers Coordinating Committee and the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans.
Cara is proficient in Spanish and helps work with Spanish speaking clients.
